
Brian Thorsett
Praised for his clear lyric tenor, Brian Thorsett is in demand
throughout California for opera, oratorio and recital. His young career
has featured guest solo turns with the renowned Philharmonia Baroque
and San Francisco Opera Center's Adler Showcase, stage appearances
under Frank Corsaro and Chas Rader-Schieber, and extensive coaching
with Marilyn Horne, Warren Jones and the late Randy Behr. Bay area
audiences have come to hear him in his many appearances with Pocket,
Berkeley, West Bay, SF Lyric, Martinez and the Livermore Valley Opera
companies, the SF Choral Society, Masterworks Chorale, Stanford
Symphonic Chorus and Lyric Theatre, among many others.
During the 2006-7 season, Brian undertakes the roles of Tamino in Die
Zauberflote, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville, Lyonel in
Flotow's melodious Martha and Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Concert engagements include Mozart's Requiem and Mass in C
minor, Bach's momentous St. Matthew Passion as both soloist and
Evangelist, Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine as well as recitals
in Half Moon Bay and San Francisco (as part of the Avedis Chamber Music
Series), CA.
Recently, Brian garnered Grand Prize at the 30th Annual Carmel Music
Society Competition and will debut with a solo recital on their
subscription series in May 2007. This past summer, he was an artist
with San Francisco Opera Center's Merola Program, performing Number 5
in Conrad Susa's Transformations and covering the role of Paolino in
Cimarosa's Il Matrimonio Segreto. The previous two summers he was
invited to the prestigious Music Academy of the West, where he was
honored with a Fellowship Grant to promote his professional
development, and to perform Ferrando in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. Recent
stage credits include Ferrando, Don Ottavio,Tamino, Nemorino, Rinuccio,
Jenik, Tonio, Gennaro, Lord Percy, Nero, Frederic and Mayor Upfold.
